Meet Angela Fugate, Founder of Mackenzie Jackson Real Estate and 719 Staging & Design, and podcast host on The Real HOMEgirls Podcast, from Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Meet Angela Fugate who left the US Air Force, started a family and founded several businesses that give back to the military community in important ways. Sixty percent of the agents at the residential real estate brokerage that she started with her husband Joshua, Mackenzie Jackson Real Estate – named after their two children, are military veterans.
A licensed Realtor®, Angela uses a large portion of her commission to fund ‘no questions asked, no cost’ mental healthcare for military service members who might otherwise not seek treatment due to the stigma and judgment that are often associated with asking for help. “I am so grateful every time that I get an anonymous bill for therapy. It means we’ve made it easier for somebody who needed help to get it,” Angela said.
Besides supporting military members, Angela founded 719 Staging & Design to provide a way for military spouses to be entrepreneurs, have their own job and learn a trade that they can take with them, anywhere in the world. When they arrive at their next military location, they can immediately begin a legitimate business serving homeowners and real estate agents.
All the stagers at the firm are military spouses. They receive on the job training and real experience staging some of Colorado’s finest properties. A background in staging or design isn’t needed. “All they need is to be willing to work and show up – we teach them everything: how to set up an LLC; how to acquire things; how much to take from each paycheck to build their own stockpile; where to buy those things; how much to spend, etc.,” she said. “We’re giving them all the tools and teaching them everything that they need to know to be successful.”
Angela also supports Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center and “Shower to the People,” a local organization provides showers and clothing to the homeless. One of her goals is to buy a lot from the city of Colorado Springs to build a community of homes for homeless veterans.
You can listen to Angela on The Real HOMEgirls Podcast , a popular (as in 9 million downloads!) free educational podcast of real estate agents, wives, moms, business owners and special guests who always keep it real. Angela’s proceeds from the podcast support veteran mental health.
If anyone hosts events in the Colorado Springs area, you’ve probably heard of Bellacuterie, a business Angela created with her teenage daughter to support her ambition to go to culinary school. Each weekend, the mother –daughter team of Angela and Mackenzie create 4-5 massive grazing tables (starting at 6 feet long!) for events, weddings and parties. Mackenzie does all of the shopping, and running the P & L. She’s already saved for two semesters of college!
