It began with a washer and dryer. When her client’s house sold and it was time to move, everything was all set. Until the client realized they hadn’t sold their washer and dryer but didn’t want to take them to their new house.
One call to Nina and the problem was solved. You see, Nina knew of a nearby enlisted military family that was in need of a washer and dryer. With help from her husband, former naval aviator and licensed real estate agent Chris Orlander who picked up and delivered the donated machines to the family, word of mouth about this generous act of kindness spread and Nina became the source for re-homed appliances. Today, her storage unit is full of donated appliances, refrigerators and lawn equipment to be delivered to lucky homeowners who need them. She has re-homed units to military service members, first responders and teachers.
But that’s not all. Nina and The O Team support several community programs throughout the year. They promote the Armed Services YMCA Thanksgiving program among their networks, clients and vendors to secure donations. Last year they fed 1,444 families and this year, they raised $8,000 for meals.
After getting to know the AWS1 James Buriak Foundation at a conference, Nina and her team sponsored their 5K run and plan to do it again next year.
In addition, The O Team is a proud supporter of Roc Solid Ready Bags which are given to families on the worst day of their lives… the day they find out their child has cancer. Since most kids are admitted to the hospital to begin treatment immediately after diagnosis, they arrive with nothing but their clothes. Roc Solid Ready Bags are filled with toiletries, supplies and goodies (we’re talking 16 GB Amazon Fire 7 entertainment tablet, games and more.)
Although everyone feels good about helping others, that’s not the goal. Nina believes, “The business provides opportunities to give back, not to call attention to ourselves.”
